Sniffer dogs spot illicit wildlife in container air samples

Researchers from the University of Adelaide have demonstrated a new way to use sniffer dogs to uncover illegal wildlife trafficking hidden in shipping containers. By pairing trained detection dogs with a portable air-sampling device that collects air from inside sealed containers, authorities can screen cargo without opening it, identifying scents from concealed wildlife products with almost 98 % accuracy.
