Ocean may absorb up to 15 % more carbon dioxide than thought, new study finds

PHYS

A new study reveals the ocean has taken in significantly more CO₂ than previous estimates, possibly absorbing up to 0.3–0.4 Pg of carbon per year — about 15 % more — thanks to processes including bubble-mediated gas exchange at the surface. These findings will refine climate models and deepen understanding of the ocean’s role in regulating Earth’s carbon cycle.
