Brazil becomes first Latin American country to ban foie gras

Brazil has banned the production, import, export, and sale of foie gras nationwide, the first such measure in Latin America. Signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after a six-year campaign by Animal Equality and allies, the law removes a controversial product from the country’s food market.
