Bangladesh turns discarded banana stems into exportable fibre

Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are turning banana stems left after harvest into fibre for sarees, bags, mats and other products. Exports are still about $1.5 million a year, but a 2024 study estimates commercial production could reach 37,800 tons, if technology and standards improve.
