India builds wildlife crossings as tiger numbers keep rising

India’s tiger population has more than doubled since 1972, reaching an estimated 3,682 in the 2022 census. To keep recovering populations connected, India has built major wildlife underpasses and overpasses, including Asia’s longest, while poaching, conflict and forest loss still threaten gains.
