The 22-kilometer-long ring road, Tangenziale di Napoli, has received official Smart Road certification from Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The road now carries over 200 cameras, traffic-detection gantries, weather stations, and vehicle-to-infrastructure antennas that provide real-time data to monitor traffic and alert connected drivers to hazards and optimal speeds. On the Vomero–Fuorigrotta stretch, autonomous vehicles adjust their speed in real time.
