New York’s first-in-the-nation law requires AI ad disclosures

Ads in New York must now disclose when a “synthetic performer” — an AI-generated person — appears in place of a real actor. Signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul in December and in effect as of June 10, the law covers all media and sets fines of $1,000 for a first violation and $5,000 for each subsequent one.
