Brazil’s largest hospital complex removes shark meat from menus

The University of São Paulo Medical School Hospital has canceled plans to purchase 17 metric tons of shark meat to protect patient health – after the NGO Sea Shepherd Brasil had written a letter to hospital administrators arguing that sharks are widely threatened and that their meat tends to contain high levels of mercury and arsenic.
