More children’s hospitals across the US are adding full-time facility dogs — specially trained working dogs embedded in care teams. Research shows they lower pain, blood pressure, and cortisol levels in young patients. One nonprofit, Canine Assistants in Georgia, has placed over 80 dogs nationally, and the annual Facility Dog Summit nearly doubled in attendance from 2024 to 2025.
