During a 2022 Red Sea heat wave, corals treated with beneficial bacteria kept their colour and photosynthetic function while untreated corals declined. The field study suggests probiotics, and one heat-killed treatment, can reduce bleaching in the wild, survival benefits and large-scale use still needs trials.
