Brazil’s space agency INPE recorded 3,335 sq km of Amazon forest clearing in the year to July 31, 2026, the lowest since records began and 42% below the previous year. Cerrado loss also hit a record low. The gains follow restored enforcement, but upcoming elections and El Niño-linked fire risks could test progress.
