Dolphins and whales are thriving in Cyprus waters — and the island is responding

Cyprus’s Department of Fisheries and Marine Research says the rising number of dolphins and other cetaceans spotted around the island is “a particularly positive and encouraging phenomenon” for the eastern Mediterranean, indicating a recovering marine ecosystem. Authorities now require vessels to slow down, maintain safe distances, and avoid chasing or surrounding the animals.
